This project brings back memories of scribbling block designs on scraps of paper.

They look much better all neat and tidy and in full colour!

Whirligig 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Every time we head out of town I see what we call whirlwinds … like a tiny tornado gathering up brown dust from one paddock to drop in a different paddock.

Thank goodness they do not appear in large groups as the ones in this series of designs, and these are also in prettier colours … and with no dust!

Tatiara Terrace Stars 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Lovely fresh green! That is something we haven’t seen a lot of in the past year, but some parts of the country had rain overnight … probably the clouds which passed over us yesterday and dropped nothing!

My farmer father told me his favourite colour was green … it meant that the crops were growing and there was feed for the sheep. Made sense to me!

The blocks in these designs are all based on the same rather intricate Star block, but with lot of the contrast colours removed or bleached.

Whirligig 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

New project, new blocks!

The blocks can be constructed using small squares of fabrics and some half square triangles, or pieces which combine the squares and triangles into larger squares and assorted shapes combining the squares and triangles. Note that there is a small sashing separating the blocks.

Much more colourful than the windmills being erected all over the place!
